GEO summarizes the process of optimizing your website, your brand’s profile and your product related information (PDPs) for AI platforms. Think of GEO as SEO for ChatGPT, Gemini, Microsoft CoPilot and so on.
How we help you Improve Brand & Product Performance in AI Search Engine Results
“Entity” is SEO speak for “well defined things”, such as clearly defined and recognized brands or products. AI platforms try to identify and classify entities (just like search engines).
Source-Backed Claims
AI Tools have a strong preference for “verifiable” statements. Claims made on your website, in marketing or product detail page copy should be backed up with sources and reputable references.
Machine Readability
AI platforms use web crawlers to absorb the content of web pages. Schema markup, the use of headings, lists, tables, and media metadata makes it easier for them to extract data.
Content Structure
AI platforms are well known for preferring content that leads with key takeaways: succinct summaries and easy to digest tables first, then more detailed long-form explanations.
Optimizing Shopify websites for AI search results is a complex process - and one that is evolving and changing fast. To achieve optimal results we help clients optimize on site content, including product detail page (PDP), collection page and blog post copy and also take care of technical enhancements.
Shopify Store Data Optimization
This includes establishing a clear product type taxonomy to organize items in a way that aligns with both customer search behavior and AI search engine data recognition patterns.
Each product should be enriched with attributes using metafields, ensuring that product details, including color names, material types, or size options are provided.
Content Optimization for AI & Users
How-to/Usage Content Pages: We add steps, installation guides, product care tip pages, and safety notes.
Injecting Comparison Tables in Blog Posts: your product vs. alternatives or variants.
Technical Enhancements
This includes primarily the rollout and optimization of schema markup, ensuring that every product page and supporting content is fully enhanced for AI engines.
We implement a variety of schema types such as Product, Offer, AggregateRating/Review, FAQ, How-To, and Organization, as well as additional structured data that best matches the page’s content and intent. By strategically applying these markup types, we enable AI crawlers better understand the context and relevance of each page.
PDP & Collection Page Optimization
Adding FAQ Sections: Real questions, concise answers, links to policy pages - based on existing user queries and product reviews.
Collection Page & Blog Post Optimization: We craft intent-based pillar pages and interlink them to related collections and PDP.
Adding Content Summary Modules: 3–5 bullet “Key Facts” that AI can lift verbatim.
Why Visibility in AI Platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, CoPilot or Perplexity is Important for E-Commerce Businesses
AI is clearly a much hyped topic and ChatGPT user numbers are exploding (ChatGPT users July 2025). At the same time many e-commerce operators look at their Google Analytics data and Shopify dashboards and can’t stop wondering what all the fuss is about? And the data proves them right: According to Ahrefs, in the second half of 2025, AI traffic only “represents 0.25%” of a typical website’s total traffic (Source). However, as Ahrefs also points out, that share is growing rapidly (9.7x vs 2024) and also, clicks originating from AI platforms convert at higher rates than traffic coming from most other acquisition channels (Source).
In addition to that Google is aggressively pushing search engine users into “AI Mode” and has also expanded its advertising placements to show ads in Gemini AI Search Engine Results (Source). This is ample evidence that demonstrates that AI powered brand and product discovery is here to stay. A new generation of “AI native” users is growing up and AI will change the e-commerce game just as the dawn of Facebook changed the way we think about content, digital marketing and user acquisition some twenty years ago.
Optimizing for ChatGPT vs. Gemini vs. Other Platforms
While all AI platforms operate by relying on the same basic principles, there are nuanced differences when it comes to optimizing for any particular AI platform. If you wonder how to prioritize different platforms, then our clear recommendation (at this point) is to focus on ChatGPT and Gemini. While ChatGPT (around 60% market share), Microsoft Copilot (14% market share) and Gemini (13% market share) are currently leading, Kalshi traders predict that Google's Gemini will lead the AI race by 2025 (Source). Thus given ChatGPT’s dominant market share and Gemini’s growth potential we recommend focusing on these two. Here are some general AI platform specific optimization recommendations:
ChatGPT / Copilot (Bing): Prioritize concise, source-backed summaries; ensure Organization/Product entities are crystal-clear; maintain consistent facts across your site, help docs, and feeds.
Gemini / AI Overviews (Google): Emphasize helpfulness and verifiability; keep schema robust; include comparison and FAQ modules that mirror real shopper questions.
Perplexity & Others: Deliver citation-dense content with quick, extractable facts; maintain consistent, up-to-date product data everywhere.
GEO vs AEO — What’s the Difference?
While most people refer to the same thing when talking about GEO or AEO, technically both activities differ: AEO describes the process of optimizing websites for AI results within traditional search results (the AI overviews that often appear at the top of Google’s search results page). GEO on the other hand focuses on optimizing websites for in-AI platform coverage - so being mentioned and quoted as a source in ChatGPT, Gemini etc responses.
In practice, optimization approaches for both AEO and GEO largely overlap as AI snippets on top of search results are also powered by Google’s Gemini.
